Why I Do This Work

My commitment to long-term care planning is deeply personal. I’ve lived it — first as a son, then as a caregiver.

​

While I was recovering from a career-ending back injury, my mother was diagnosed with Stage III lung cancer. My wife and I quickly transitioned from being “the kids” to managing doctor visits, treatments, and daily care. When my mom entered hospice, we hired professional caregivers so she could remain comfortable and dignified in her final months. The cost of her care exceeded $50,000 — entirely out of pocket. The emotional toll was immense, and the financial strain only added to the burden. We had no long-term care plan, and I often reflect on how different that experience could have been with proper planning.

Years later, my father began showing signs of dementia, which later progressed alongside Parkinson’s disease. What started as assisted living eventually required full memory care. Over eight years, the cost of his care approached $800,000. This time, we were prepared. A long-term care insurance plan allowed my father to receive the care he needed without placing an overwhelming financial or emotional burden on our family.

These experiences shaped my purpose.

Long-term care planning is not just about protecting assets — it’s about protecting families. It’s about preserving dignity, reducing stress, and ensuring loved ones aren’t forced into impossible decisions during already difficult moments.
